Education: graduated from the Kyiv higher engineering and aviation military school of the Air Force (1970) with a major in "Automatic, electrical and instrument equipment of manned air and space aircraft"
He has been working at the Centre since February 2002, first as a chief researcher of the Department of Energy and Mass Exchange in Geosystems, and since April 2003 - as a Deputy Director of the Centre for Scientific Work. From December 2016 until now, he is the director of the "Scientific Center for Aerospace Research of the Earth of the National Academy of Sciences of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine".
Field of professional interests: remote sensing of the Earth: theory and application.
The main directions of scientific research: automation of analysis of aerospace images, methods of integrating data from various sources, methods of remote search for natural mineral deposits and solving other thematic problems.
Author of more than 490 scientific works, including 8 monographs. Co-author of 3 state standards of Ukraine in the field of remote sensing of the Earth and 67 copyright certificates and patents for inventions.
Under the scientific guidance of the corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine M.O. Popov defended 18 candidate's and 3 doctoral theses.
Chairman of the specialized academic council D 26.162.03 for the defense of doctoral dissertations, Chairman of the Centre's academic council.
Member of the editorial boards of a number of professional scientific and technical journals published in Ukraine.
Member of the Science and Technology Committee GEO - Group on the Earth Observation, expert from Ukraine in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe on the Open Skies Treaty.
